Shooting in Connecticut
I am very sad about the shooting in Connecticut. For example, most of the people killed were five to six year old. I have two baby sisters and one is six. My sister and I never really bonded and got along. If this was to happen to her I would be despondent and I wouldn't have forgiven myself because I sort of favored my two year old sister more because I practically raised her. My sister Miracle is a bit more complicated but I still love her. Learning about the shooting only made me realized that you could lose anyone at anytime. So I'm going to make an appoint to spend some time with her and really give her a chance. I learned to appreciate my family more and to not take things for granted. I hope this would be the last of things like this tragedy. I pray for the families that didn't have a child to take home on that horrible day. I hope this is a valuable lesson for those who keep guns around a child who is mentally unstable and take them to shooting ranges.

Irony in "Lamb to the Slaughter"
The irony in “Lamb to the Slaughter” makes the story memorable. For example, the detectives stated, “Probably right under our noses. What do you think Jack?” when they sat down to eat the leg of lamb (p.324). This shows that, the detectives were unaware of the lamb being the weapon, but the audience knows what it was used for, which makes it dramatic irony. This also shows that, the reader is amused because they know that the weapon really is under their nose. For example, Mary yelled, “Patrick!...How are you, darling?” after she got home from the vegetable store (p.321). This shows that, she blatantly tried to act like everything was normal even though she knows he is not okay making this situation verbal irony. This also shows that, the reader is interested in how she is going to act when she finds Patrick dead. In conclusion, Mary Maloney keeps the reader guessing based on her behavior and how she handled the murder of her husband.

My night at Target
The trip to Target was so much fun. I had practice right before we left so I had to rush home and take a quick shower before I was rushed out the door. The whole campus piled into the three buses that were available to us. On the way there I was thinking about what I was going to get . When we got there regular shoppers were curious of what was going on. Half of the people left within the first ten minutes we were there. When I got my paper that told what I could get and what I couldn't I was a little upset. I mean how are you going to get $200 and not spend some of it on food. I decided to head to the entertainment section and that's where everybody was. I got some movies and then I headed to the boy section because they always had the best stuff. I got a two flannel shirts, Angry bird boxers, pajamas, blanket, and slippers. I then headed to the bedroom accessories and got a new comforter and pillow case. When I was done I headed to the front of the store and was surprised. The line was wrapped three aisle's and I had to jump in line before anyone else got in front of me. I waited for about 30 minutes before I was checked out and ready to get on the bus to go home. We waited 20 minutes more for more kids to pile on with all their merchandise. We headed home and I was super tired and ready to knock out. When we came home I went straight to bed.

Cell phones are not safe to use while driving. For example, Some people have a hard time ASSESSING the situation before they check their text messages putting themselves and other drivers on the road in danger. This shows that, you might think that they are capable of handling the responsibility, but you never know what's around the corner. Some people do not get the CONCEPT of constant distractions when texting or talking while driving. By past experiences in my life I can RELATE that not everybody is capable of multitasking while keeping an eye on the road. In conclusion, I truly believe that cell phones should not be in mind while trying to be safe on the road.

Women should not be required to sign up for the draft. For example, men have always held the responsibility of fighting for our country. This shows that, it's a FACTOR that women should not have to fight in a mans quarrel. This also shows that, women shouldn't have to be put in a situation where she has to leave her children just because men can't keep the peace. In addition, men purposely PLOT to use a women's freedom as a reason to sign up and go to war. This shows that, men have taken advantage against women just because we chose to use our VOICE to gain out natural rights. This also shows that, women can choose to join the military on their own accord, but they shouldn't have to be forced. In conclusion, men should stick to being the fighters of this country and women should be able to do as they wish.

Academic Language Assessment week 9

Vending machines should be banned from high schools. For example, students spend more time and money on the snack utilities other than their studies. This shows that, they should pack an ALTERNATIVE healthy snack if they know they're going to get hungry in the middle of the day. This also shows that, kids eating habits are not disciplined enough to make healthy food choices for themselves if half of their allowance is spent on junk food. If students still get hungry in the middle of the day they should make a STRATEGY so that they are not making unhealthy lifestyle choices. I'm not bashing on all vending machines, because some of the machines offer healthier food items. For example, in hospitals they offer fruit and alternative snack items. In my PREVIOUS school they encouraged children to bring fruits and vegetables for snack instead of heart attack food that will effect them later in life. In conclusion, vending machines should be kept at bay in high schools so eating habits in the future will not have a bad outcome.

Academic Language Written Assessment Week 8
The ten commandments do not belong in public schools. For example, the content of the CATEGORY might be a sensitive subject for some people to handle. This shows that, Mixing religion and school subjects is not a good idea because it could cloud the judgement of a teacher and his/her teaching methods. This also shows that, the important subjects that kids need to learn might not be paid attention to, because time can be CONSUMED by the teachers personal beliefs. Their are private schools for religion if the parents want the subject to be taught to their children. For example, the private schools offer special classes that teach and also preach about different religions. This shows that, public schools do not need to teach these subjects because you can pay a fee to have your children attend certain schools if you wish. Being religious is a personal reference and not everybody believes in religion. Religion shouldn't have to play a ROLE in education if you do not have a desire to participate in churchgoing activities. In conclusion, the separation between church and state should the same because it would prevent complications from occurring.

The pressure in tern sports has gone too far. One reason is some parents CONSTRUCT a schedule based on their sports, and they still expect their children to perform well in their studies. Although, sports do offer a SIGNIFICANT amount if scholarships, but their grades and focus led are sacrificed. Third reason is, some teenagers don't know how to IDENTIFY their priorities and academic goals. In conclusion, academics should be everybodies priority not sports.

What is something I dislike about myself?
I would have to say my patience with people. One reason is, I'm to nice and I let people run over me when I know they're doing it. The one thing that really gets me is when people take me for granted and they know I'm not the arguing type. When I blow up on them and they want to know why I have such a bad attitude I tell them and they usually leave me alone after that. Second reason is, it's one of my best qualities and that's what I get recognized for the most. Third reason is, I never really speak my mind unless it's necessary. So, if someone is trying to start an argument with me I would just talk calmly and that makes them look like the bad guy. In conclusion, having patience can be a good thing and a bad thing, but overall I'm glad I have it because I have to deal with the people on this campus.

English 10 Academic Vocabulary Paragraph
You should go to jail for harassing someone via text and on social networks. One reason is, if you really have a problem with somebody you should confront them not harrass them when they are in the comfort of their home. Some people are AFFECTED differentely by verbal abuse because it's strictly mental not physical. Second reason is, studies show that some people are not able to MAINTAIN a good sense of mind when they are verbally abused on a daily basis. In addition, people shouldn't have to go through that everyday. This shows that, pushing someone's boundaries are not good because you do not no their limits. For example, bullies will go the extra mile just to make someone's life hell because they have problems of their own. This also shows that, if you can waste time attacking people by using TEXT, then I think that person can spend some time in jail and think about their own problems for a while.

My favorite book is "Perks of being a wallflower" written by Stephen Chbosky. This is my favorite book because it kind of explains the life of a kid named Charlie that was wasn't quite correct, but nothing was wrong with him. In the beginning of the story it talks about his good friend Michael who committed suicide. This leaves him with no one to talk to and he wonders why things work the way they do. Eventually he is introduced to Sam and Patrick. They are like the leaders of the wallflowers, but they are proud of that. They make Chalie see that being popular isn't everything and to embrace your true self. Later in the story you find out that Patrick is gay and his boyfriend is the quarterback of the football team. Charlie swore not to say anything about it because he was one of his best friends. Charlie begins to develop a little crush on Sam but doesn't say anything about it. He doesn't want to jeopardize their friendship. Sam is a senior and she has to graduate leaving behind everybody including Charlie. In this story Charlie experiences everything from sex, drugs, and having fun in the matter of two months because these two wonderful people came into his life.

Paragraph- Future
I genuinely believe that I will achieve all my goals and even more in the future. This past year has given me so much insight of the what the future holds. One insight is, how much you have to be determined and focused to stay on top of school work and extracurricular activities. Another thing is, balance. In my case I was juggling many activity's at once such as Basketball, Keyclub, and school. I eventually found equality between all of them and was able keep my grades in good order. Since I found these things I know that in the future to apply these skills to my college career. Another important goal for me is to become valedictorian of my class and to leave SPA with a exquisite reputation for my future achievements. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. So I will do anything in my power to make my future bright.

"Romeo & Juliet" Before You Read Part A
In the last weeks of the semester we are learninng about Romeo and Juliet. Of course we have to know about the author before we go into their best work. William Shakespeare is one of the greatest writers in the history of the english language. He wrote numerous plays, a bunch of sonnets, and a whole lot more that hasn't really been talked about. William was born in England in 1564. He was married at eighteen and moved to London later on. By 1594 he was popular forhis play writes and acting around the around the cities. William's history plays told the history of kings, rulers, and days gone by. He also wrote comedy plays, tradgdies, and romances. Most of his plays were performed in the globe theatre which was very popular. Shakespeare died in 1616 at the age of 52. Even though he died his legend still lives on as well as his plays and fantastic writing shared all over the world.

Romeo & Juliet - Love at First Sight
I do not believe in love at first sight. For example, in this movie Romeo crashes the Capulets party and spots Juliet prancing around in a robe dress. Then he starts going off about how he never felt so much love at that very moment. This makes me furious. He just saw her this makes no sense to me he does not even know her name at this point, and he is already confessing his love. I understand that this is a story and in some cases this just might happen, but come on! Furthermore in the story Romeo decides to boogie down on the dance floor with the rest of the crowd and just so happens that his dancing partner becomes the one and only Juliet. Then this character that has nothing to do with the plot comes on screen singing for hours. Then all the sudden the two "meant" two start searching for each other in the crowd jumping and knocking over people. Then they found each other and he grabbed her hand and she pulled away! Then they start having a conversation about sinning. Then they kiss! They just said that in touching of the flesh and caressing of each other was a sin, THEN THEY KISS! What goes on in Shakespeare's head beats me but this just does not happen . I can't express how much This story really irritates me.

Personal Changes Blog Paragraph
When I was a freshman, I was quiet, anti-social and didn't like to be around a big group of people. Now, It's the end of the year and I'm more confident and I don't spend most of my time on the outside of conversations I'm mostly in the middle of them now. For example, When people used to talk about themselves and want to have a full on conversation with people I would be the first one out the door. This shows that, I was would get really nervous talking about myself to people. In addition, I like talking to people now and getting to know people on campus because I see them everyday. This also shows that I have prospered in my social skills and enjoy being around my friends. By my senior year, I hope to be the ultimate socialite and get to know every before I leave SPA.

SPA Policy Blog Paragraph
One policy that I wish could be changed is the self pass rule, because I believe that some fifteen year olds are responsible enough, and more mature than others.
Currently, this policy states that you had to be 16 to go off campus by your lonesome and to go off campus with your friends without a staff.
One reason it should be changed is some 15 year olds are able to handle the responsibility and trust that is required of them in order to get this privilege.
If this policy was changed, I would definitely try to get this privilege pronto, because I've always wanted to know how it felt to be by myself at SPA without a staff lingering around in my alone time.

American students are not falling behind in academics.COMPARED to other countries we have better resources and a better chance at getting a good job. The RANGE of student capabilities vary between each student. Although, in other countries the students have more determination because their life styles aren't as fortunate. The school system here is a lot less complicated because we can collect DATA about students and their education level, so if they need help they can receive it. In conclusion, America has a better education system, and we are successful in academics.

A student should not have to pass a high school exit exam in order to earn a high school diploma. One reason is, the cost to DISTRIBUTE the test could be really expensive and some students don't have the resources or the money to pay the fee for the exam. Another reason is, students shouldn't have to pass a test before OBTAINING a diploma, becasue they should be prepared if they already went through four years of high scool. Additionaly, the The subjects in which the students should be tested in VARY from what jobs they wish to acquire. This makes it difficult to test the students on the right skills. In conclusion, Students should always be able to graduate and get a diploma if their grades and effort is put forth. I disaagree with the paragraph, but all the words go with no. |

Academic Language Week 31 - Teen Vandals
Parents of teen vandals should not be held responsible for their child's damage. One reason is because their children will not be able to ACHIEVE a better understanding if their mistakes are not paid for correctly. If the child is not given a SPECIFIC punishment for the damage, they will never be able to function in a society if they do not understand the rules. Children need to COMPUTE their consequences without an adults help. In conclusion, parents should not be responsible for their child's actions.

Academic Language Week 29 - School Conferences
Parents should not face jail time for missing their child's school conference. One reason is because parents shouldn't have to be present at a conference because there are other ways of TRANSFERRING information about their child. Using emails is a good RESOURCE of contacting the parent about their child's behavior and grades. If the child does not SEEK help from the parent then they can always go to their teacher for assistance. It can be very difficult for parents to take time out of their work schedule to attend a conference for their child. It is very important for children to get a good education, but it can be very hard for parents to always be apart of their kid's education. Jail time is unnecessary for parents as long as the child is being cared for.

Rain, Vacation, or Zombies vs Vampires Blog Post Paragraph
I would rather be bitten by a vampire. With a vampire attack their could be more perks or doom for your life. Vampires are far more powerful then a rotten corpse walking around growling things at you. In the time of the attack you could just be bitten and turned into on of them or they would possibly just use you as dinner. Zombie's on the other hand are a totally different story. They eat your flesh while you are still conscience and writhing in pain while they continue to devour every ounce left of you. If certain events were to occur and you bitten were bitten, you become extremely beautiful and indestructible with unbelievably super strength. I would rather become a vampire because I would become even more awesome than I am now.

I would not want a car that drives itself. When we PROCEED to make things that make us less independent we become more lazier in our everyday lives. If the car's computer was to have a malfunction a fatal accident could OCCUR for the driver, and the other drivers sharing the road. The METHOD of making our country dependent on technology could possibly enhance our economy or make go down the drain even more. Our country needs to focus more on ways to save us rather than ways of making it easier to get around in machines that could be causing the problems we have today with global warming.

Homonyms Practice Blog Paragraph
It was our second game of the season, and we were all excited for this one. We were playing St. Josephs and we were positive that we were going to win the game. We went to a rec. center gym because THEIR gym was under construction. When we drove THERE all I could think of was concentrating on the game, and not let anything get me down. When we arrived at the rec. center we got out and immediately got looks from the girls moms and dads. I didn't let that phase me though. we knew that the team was going to be late THEY'RE always late to the games. We stared warming up after we put on our shoes, and took off all of our jewelry. I was starting that game so I had to make sure that I warmed up and stretched the right way. When the game started we were on fire! In the first quarter it was 17 to 8 and we were invincible. I was taken out of the game for rest, then things started to get bad. I guess we started thinking that we didn't have to try that hard because the other team was losing anyway. Boy were we wrong! Have you ever had that feeling that if you pushed just a little bit harder that you wouldn't had failed and let YOUR team down? That's exactly how I felt when I was put back in the game and I didn't try my hardest. It's the worst feeling in the world when you believe that YOU'RE the reason for YOUR teams lost. I learned a lesson that day, if your put your full effort into everything you do great things will come out of it. We lost that game but we lost with dignity..

Academic Language Week 25 - Concealed Handguns
Adults should not have the right to carry a concealed hand gun. This can ESTABLISH problems with children because they will think it is okay to be violent and to solve their problems with violence. Carry a concealed hand gun would INDICATE that they're armed and dangerous even if the gun cannot be seen. They may use the gun for false pretensions and harm themselves and others. Some may JUSTIFY that guns are just a source of protection when really it is basically stating that violence is the solution. If you really think about it, some adults can be pretty dumb sometimes and it's practically saying "let's give a gun to a five year old." Not a very smart idea. Adults should be more per cautious about bringing weapons into their lives. If it really came down to it and we all had to carry a gun, that is not concealed, then it may be an appropriate time to discuss it again, but until then no adult or human being should be allowed to carry a concealed hand gun.

Technology in School Paragraph
My first experience with educating computers games was when Ms. Priester introduced the class to Quizlet.com. At the beginning my first thought was that the website was for children and we were wasting our time. Then, I started warming up to the idea because I was getting my study time in, and the computer corrected me when I made a mistake. If I didn't have the spelling list printed and in my binder; I would go on Quizlet and study the words on the computer as another resource. I found it easier to go on the computer to study the words instead of getting quizzed by my house parents. I like the fact that computer games don't have to be complicated or boring, and I can concentrate better too.

Persausive Essay
Montanna and Rossy were top in their classes and were offered an interview on the local news. They were doing so well in their classes at SPA that they thought they should be recognized for their accomplishments and good efforts in school. They begged for Beth to let them be on t.v., and Beth just kept saying no because it was for their own safety. Finally, they gave up because it wasn’t worth the fight if they kept getting shot down and rejected. They complained to their house parent that it wasn’t fair that every other teen in San Diego were allowed to be on t.v. and just because they were foster kids they were hidden behind rules and restrictions by the judges and social workers of the court.
SPA students should be able to be shown on television. The odds of Spa kids being in danger of being stalked by a stranger are very low, because we are so far away from civilization that it would be hard to find our current location. My house got the chance to be on the San Pasqual documentary video and it was shown on the news to all of San Diego. Nothing happened to us, in fact we probably were more noticed on a positive note rather than a negative. Most of the time when we are allowed on t.v. it's for a good reason and it makes our school and home look positive and worth filming.
Spa kids should be allowed to be recognized just like any other person. Also, it shows they are the same as any other teen in San Diego by being a part of the local news. If one of the students at Spa were asked to be interviewed on t.v. because they wanted to know their life story they would have to say no because of the restrictions. If they weren't foster youth they would have been able to accept the offer and probably would have even helped them in their future. Why is fair that "regular kids" get to be shown on t.v., but when it comes to foster youth we have to be hidden from the rest of the world. We are all the same. Being a foster kid doesn't define us, and neither should rules that say we can't be shown like everybody else.
Since SPA students are not allowed to be filmed, it leads them to feeling different from non-foster youth. Foster youth only want to feel normal like other kids do. From hearing a story about having to wear a "No Camera" sticker on their shirt for a school field trip just says that they have to be hidden from society even at school events. This shows that they can't even function around their peers without being told to be on the the other side of the film. From personal experience on the D.C. trip in eighth grade I was told that I wasn’t allowed to be in a picture because it was going to go on the school website I could get into trouble with SPA’s rules against it. I was heart broken that I couldn’t even take a picture with my friends without being pushed to the side and told that it was for my safety.
In conclusion, Everyone should be treated the same. If that means that foster has to argue with the court to get the same privileges as the common teen so be it. Foster youth are more likely to be noticed as “regular” if they are given the same opportunities as kids of their age. Being apart of the foster youth community myself I only wish to get the same treatment as my peers off campus. In fact, foster kids not being a loud on t.v. excludes us even more from being considered regular.

Jammer Dinner 2011
First-Person Narration from Lil’ Beyonce’s Point of View
Today is our big performance at the year round Jammer dinner and I’m super excited. I can’t wait to see all the people from last year there and the new people. Everybody calls me LIL’ Beyonce’ because they know I get down when I’m dancing. This year our outfits are purple and that’s my favorite color. The Jammer dinner is always at the Hall of Champions and it’s really neat inside. They have a second floor that is just for awards and for the people that contributed to the museum. We are outside practicing the routine when we see two big buses coming that means the kids have arrived and we can get start heading into the building. We decided to go through the whole routine one more time before going inside just to make sure we have it down. When we step inside we immediately go to the second floor to have a meeting about making sure we do our best and going out there and have fun. We Were all pumped and ready for the show. When they announced us out to the floor(stage) we all let out squeal and starting going down the stairs. It was a fifteen minute performance but we ended the routine with smiles on our faces and everybody clapped for us. We got to meet all the kids there and I hope I get to perform next year also.

Academic Language Practice Paragaph 17
The benefits of importing China's goods do not outweigh the consequences. Everything that is IMPORTED from China is cheaper than the U.S products. What supplies we EXPORT benefits them and what goods they EXPORT benefits us. On the bright side it helps our economy FUNCTION better by giving us certain jobs. I think this trading business helps both of our economies work together, and keep the working world working for both countries.
